Many rabbit are kept outdoors in hutches. Ideally there should be a run attached. If the garden is enclosed the rabbit can be allowed free run of the garden. It is important to ensure protection from predators, either wild animals or other domestic pets. The hutch must be situated in a site protected from rain, wind and, in the summer, direct sunlight. Outdoor rabbits must be kept clean and dry and their hutch cleaned regularly, as they are most susceptible to the unwanted attentions of flies and the development of 'fly strike'.
Indoor rabbits
The indoor dog kennel is the most popular form of indoor cage. However, as 'house rabbits' become more popular there are 'designer hutches' appearing on the market. It is important that the indoor cage is sited somewhere quiet in the house, and that within the cage there is a dark covered area to hide; the cage should not be placed directly by a radiator or window.
